Capt. Chong is the Port Master and Senior Deputy Director (MSPO) of the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA).  His responsibilities include regulatory control, safe and efficient management of the port.

 

He holds a Master (Foreign-going) Certificate of Competency and a Master of Science (Maritime Safety and Environmental Administration) from the World Maritime University, Malmo (Sweden).  He joined the MPA in 2009 as a VTS manager in the Singapore VTIS and subsequently promoted to Controller to oversee the Marine Environment and Safety Department from 2016 to 2017.

 

Capt. Chong currently oversees three operational departments in the MPA: the Marine Environment and Safety, Vessel Traffic Management and Operations Planning and Pilotage Departments.

Punit is the President & Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers, UK.

 

He is the founder of Maritime NXT, Singapore, a platform dedicated to driving the “Next” in Maritime through investing, training, teaching, mentoring, consulting and collaborating in commercial shipping & digital transformation space.

 

Punit is a Senior Adjunct Fellow at Maritime & Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) Academy, and an Affiliated Research Fellow & Guest Lecturer at Singapore Management University (SMU) lecturing on “Geopolitical risks & their impact on shipping & trade flows” & also hosts a monthly podcast on the topic with Seatrade Maritime Podcast, interviewing prominent shipping & trade leaders.  Punit is closely associated as a trainer for BIMCO and also sits on the advisory board of IMBA, India.

Karmjit was the Chief Executive of SATS Airport Services from 1998 to 2004.  He was appointed the Chief Operating Officer of SATS in 2004, where he held the position till his retirement in 2009.  

 

Karmjit has been the Chairman of The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport Singapore since 1992.  Karmjit was an Independent Director at Keppel Telecommunications & Transportation from 2010 to 2021.  He was formerly Chairman of SingPost Advisory Council on E-Commerce and E-Fulfilment, and served on the Boards of the Public Transport Council and The Logistics Institute – Asia Pacific.
