WEBINAR: AI in Action - Enhancing Ground Operations at Frankfurt Airport

Join this virtual panel to hear from industry leaders as they explore how AI and computer vision are enhancing efficiency, visibility, and collaboration in airport ground operations.

As air travel demand increases and operational pressure mounts, airports must embrace intelligent, scalable solutions to maintain efficiency and resilience.

This expert-led virtual panel explores how AI and computer vision are transforming ground operations at Frankfurt Airport, with real-world insights from zeroG, the AI experts of Lufthansa Group, Fraport, and FraAlliance.

Attendees will learn how advanced digital technologies are unlocking visibility into apron processes and supporting more agile, data-driven operations.

This panel will discuss long-standing operational challenges that affect daily airport performance, including inefficient aircraft turnaround due to lack of visibility, and delays caused by excess or non-compliant carry-on baggage. Attendees will gain insight into how disconnected data sources, unpredictable workflows, and reactive decision-making continue to hinder resource planning, safety, and passenger satisfaction. The session will also address the implementation hurdles associated with AI technologies, such as compliance with data protection regulations and the need for seamless integration into existing operational structures.

The discussion will highlight two real-world implementations currently active at Frankfurt International Airport. The first use case involves using computer vision to monitor over 30 aircraft turnaround events in real time, providing a live operational overview and data-driven alerts to support efficient management. The second use case tackles one of the most common sources of boarding delay: carry-on baggage. A new system tracks carry-on volumes as passengers pass through security gates, enabling gate staff to take early action and improving both boarding time and customer experience. These case studies offer actionable examples of how AI can be embedded into airport environments to solve persistent challenges.

Speakers will share valuable lessons learned from deploying AI at one of Europe’s busiest hubs, including strategies for aligning technology with operational workflows, engaging frontline staff, and ensuring legal and ethical data practices. The panel will explore how collaborative design and integration with existing systems can help build solutions that users want to adopt. Broader reflections on the future of airport digital transformation and the role of AI in optimising passenger flow and resource coordination will round out the discussion.
