Fast and reliable links between suburban areas and densely populated city centres can improve access and mobility, while reducing entrenched car dependence and shaping long-term spatial dynamics.

Based on five case studies, this report explores how different jurisdictions navigate the institutional, technical and financial complexities required to deliver higher-speed urban to suburban rail links, with a particular focus on the socio-spatial impacts. It also offers policy recommendations that aim to bridge the gap between infrastructure provision and inclusive urban development.
